After you submit your voter registration application, you will receive a voter registration certificate (your proof of registration) by mail within 30 days. Be sure to check your certificate for any errors and make corrections, if necessary, by contacting the Voter Registrar immediately.
Your certificate will have a precinct number, which identifies the specific area within your county where you will vote on Election Day. Precincts may sometimes be combined for joint local elections, so check with your County Clerk or Elections Administrator for the exact location of your polling place before an election. If your county has provided polling place information, you can find it here: County Precincts and Polling Place Addresses
When you go to vote, you must present one of the seven acceptable forms of photo ID. If you do not have an acceptable form of photo identification and cannot reasonably obtain one, you may present a supporting form of ID (such as your voter registration certificate) and sign a Reasonable Impediment Declaration (PDF) stating your reason for not having an acceptable form of photo ID. An election official will verify your name against the official list of registered voters.
If you have received the permanent exemption from showing a photo ID due to your disability status, this will be noted on your voter registration certificate, which you must present when you go to vote.
If you lose your certificate, notify your county Voter Registrar in writing to receive a new one. If you haven’t moved from your registered address, you will automatically receive a new certificate every two years.
