Her Story

Dr. Tonya Stafford is a Dallas native who was forced into trafficking at 13 and resuced after decade near Fair Park.  Her resilience spurred policy change and national rescue efforts including Texas’s requirement for human trafficking awareness in the barber and cosmetology license renewal.​

Our Story

The Sharla D. Wooten Foundation celebrates the courage and curiosity of young people asking questions, seeking information, and supporting peers. We reaffirm our dedication to age-appropriate HIV and STI education, evidence based information, and accessible resources.
 
Our foundation has been a 2024 – 2026 national research parter collaborator with Texas A&M University School of Public Health (Center for Community Health and Aging), Cincinatti Children’s Hospital, and Using The Connect (UTC). This 6th – 8 th grade student research study has created a fun learning expericence for students while providing incentivized student opportunities. 
 

We are connecting the community to stop human trafficking while investing in the lives of our children.
